Tips For Gutter Cleaning
For almost every one of us, the terrible task of gutter cleaning on
our home or place of business is one that we always dread having to do.
Unfortunately, this is one of those jobs that simply must be done. If it
is not done and done correctly, it can cause damage to our roofs, our
homes and create a breeding ground for insects and other nasty bugs.
Following these simple gutter cleaning tips, you will be able to
ensure that your gutters are channelling the water properly away from
your home, and that they are kept nice and clean.
-
Never lean on the gutter system. This
can cause damage to the system, as they are not made to be strong
enough to support the weight of a person.
-
Be sure to use safe, strong ladders
that will easily reach the height of your gutters. Stretching from a
ladder that is not quite high enough is an accident waiting to
happen.
-
Routine cleaning of your gutters will
keep the chore less frustrating each time you need to clean them.
-
Gutter cleaning at least twice per
year should be done, optimally doing so each season would be best.
-
Scoop leaves and twigs that are in
the gutter system by using either a specially designed scoop for
cleaning gutters, or you can use a large spoon. Another way some
individuals prefer removing the leaves is by using a leaf blower. If
doing so by hand, remember to wear safety gloves.
-
Small amounts of dirt in the gutter
system can easily be removed by washing it out with water. If there
is a large amount of dirt clogging the gutter, you will first want
to moisten it with water from either a container or garden hose.
Once the dirt has softened sufficiently, remove it with the scoop.
-
Downspouts that become clogged can
easily be washed out using a garden hose. If debris has become
lodged and will not come out with the use of the water, you can use
a plumber’s snake, or even a long piece of wire.
Taking care to clean your home’s gutter system and downspout on a
regular basis will keep them running in a smooth operating condition.
Remember, safety is of utmost importance when you are cleaning out
the gutters of your home or business. It is always best to do this chore
with someone else at home, who, if not actually helping you, is checking
on your regularly for safety reasons. |
